What’s Involved?

To give you an idea of what to expect here’s the process we would go through to get a new website up and running for you.

1 - Getting Started

Once you get in touch we can start talking about your requirements.  You tell me what you want and I’ll explain how I can help.  If you’re not sure exactly what you need then I can provide some ideas to guide you.  I’ll need to ask some questions too.  Nothing in depth but enough so that I can scope the project and give you a quote.

2 - Pricing

I’ll get back to you with a written outline of the project, a fixed price, and timescale for completion.  If you decide to go ahead that’s great but if you prefer not to then no problem.  Website work can be a fluid process so I like to be as flexible as I can and I’m happy to fit in scope changes if required so don’t worry if you need to change your requirements.

3 - Planning

If you decide to go ahead we’ll have a follow up discussion to go over the work in more detail and I can find out more about you and/or your business and your brand (if you have one).  I’ll also want to understand areas such as your business goals, your target audience, what you want users to achieve.  This will feed into the research I do to maximise the success of the website.  We’ll also go through what information you want your audience to see.

4 - Design & Development

I’ll put together an initial draft of the website so you have an idea of the look and feel and to make sure it’s close to what you envisioned.  If you’re providing text and images then I’ll add those in too.  You can tell me if you don’t like something and I’ll incorporate any changes you need.  We’ll keep reviewing it until you’re happy.

5 - Testing

I’ll do lots of testing to make sure the website is functioning as it should do (e.g links, buttons, contact forms) and that it works smoothly on both desktops and mobile devices.

6 - Going Live

Once the website is launched I’ll monitor the visitor activity and search ranking. This is normally done over a period of 2 to 4 weeks.

7 - Support

If you choose to manage the website yourself I’ll take you through editing content and creating pages.  If you prefer me to make changes for you then we can arrange a monthly maintenance plan or there’s a pay-per-change option.  If any small tweaks are needed shortly after going live then I can normally do these without charging.
